That is probably true. Facebook is not the only company gone out of hands. However, facebook promises to keep all the information private and that it will not track users. It uses the information it has collected under false promises to gain profit. I don't remember signing anything with google and I haven't heard google search engine violating user privacy in itself. Probably most of us have noticed our anti virus programs removing tracking cookies frequently. So the idea of tracking internet users is not a new one.
EDIT:
I would like to add and clarify that google search doesn't request any personal information from me. I don't mind if they use information I have inputted free willingly by using the search engine within the service to improve the results or the quality of their own service. That kind of belongs to them.
