This is typically caused by your video card dieing. Expect the frequency of problems to rise. Other possibilities can be some issues on mother board. In any case, unless you have just updated graphics drivers which could be buggy and cause issues, prepare for a new purchase.

first of all check with another monitor (especially if you play with laptop + external monitor).
if its not the monitor, this i would suspect the gfx-card to be the problem, this also can be controlled by temporarily changing it with another one.

Maybe it says in the manual? Btw, you have really not cleaned the fans properly, based on the amount of dust or what looks like dust.

It would be easier if you told which card that is, but luckily I saw the necessary info from that pic even its blurry. I think that card is Nvidia 8500 GT made by Asus. Correct? I found two answers and they are:

1. Sound cable for HDMI (that you can carry sound and video over HDMI)

2. Power cable for fan.

My guess is that its not power cable but sound cable for HDMI cos those old cards usually dont have external power cables even for fans. Fan can have shorter cable connected straight to graphic card.

EDIT: You can google: "asus 8500 gt wire" if you want to read those forums more :)

Though it looks like a fan power cable more then a data cable. In any case, if your new card don't have such connector or your manual don't reference such connection, then you don't need to worry about it.

Lol Gao. If this was pointed to my post, I didn't mean actual HDMI cable but sound cable which is connected between graphic card and motherboard (inside the PC). Then you can get sound out from HDMI with video (outside the PC with those cables in the link you posted).

You might be right. I was at least mixing up with the HDMI cable. I also found picture of the fan power cable which has more then the 2 pins. Maybe because of temperature monitoring. Anyway, rather twisted thing when sound has 2 pins and fan power takes 4 pins.

It's been years since I have built computers.

Ye, I think that is the same card. I'm not professional either but like the picture shows, that the fan cable is connected to graphic card and there's still that tiny, unknown white connector. Well, since Nakki told that everything is fine now and sounds working, I rest the case. Even a tiny part of my curiosity would like to know what it is :)
