Having problems with mouse?

Not long ago, my mouse started to annoy me. When I was playing ET, it started to twitch and lose control. It´s an optical mouse, so I suspect it was just a cat hair in optical lens (usually this is the problem). It wasn´t that.
Then I noticed that Windows had failed to install some updated (Windows Live Messenger etc.). The mouse problems started when there was Windows updates waiting for me to reboot the pc. Then I deleted the programs that failed to install updates and re-installed them. No more rebooting and mouse works just fine.
Also, remember to shut down any unnecessary processes from the backround.
